Understanding ortho-k

Overnight reshaping. Glasses-free days.

Orthokeratology uses custom rigid lenses worn overnight to gently reshape your cornea. You wake up, remove them, and see clearly all day โ€” no daytime contacts, no glasses. Also a powerful myopia control tool for kids.

wear overnight Clear vision all day
Night: reshape. Day: clear. Night: lens shapes Day: no lens, clear ~8 hours Fully reversible reshaping

Corneal "retainers" for your eyes.

The lenses apply precise pressure to your cornea overnight, temporarily reshaping its front surface โ€” exactly like orthodontic retainers for teeth.

The effect wears off slowly over the day (and fully within days if you stop wearing them). No permanent change โ€” just reversible reshaping that gives you clear daytime vision and, in kids, slows myopia progression by 30โ€“50%.

Here's the plan โ€”
and why it works.

We give you the lenses, teach insertion, removal, and care.

Week 1

First mornings

Vision may fluctuate first few days โ€” completely normal. Check-ups confirm reshaping.

Ongoing

Nightly wear

Nightly wear maintains daytime clear vision. New lenses every 1โ€“2 years.

You develop eye pain, redness, discharge, or blurred daytime vision that doesn't match usual patterns. Ortho-K safety depends on catching problems early.

Common questions

Honest answers to common questions.

How fast does it work?+

Most patients see dramatic improvement the first morning. Full correction typically settles in 1โ€“2 weeks of nightly wear. We check progress several times during this phase.

What if I stop wearing them?+

Your vision gradually returns to baseline over a week or two. Totally reversible, no permanent changes to your eye.

Is it safe for kids?+

Yes, and it's one of the best myopia control options available. Research consistently shows 30โ€“50% reduction in myopia progression in children wearing Ortho-K. Parents manage insertion and removal for younger kids.

How much myopia can it correct?+

Generally up to about -6.00, with astigmatism up to about -1.75. Higher prescriptions can sometimes be treated with newer designs, but outside that range, results become less predictable.

Are there risks?+

The main risk โ€” as with any overnight lens wear โ€” is infection. Strict hygiene dramatically reduces this risk. We see infection in fewer than 1 in 500 wearers when care instructions are followed.
